A piece of urbanism that mediates between the ur- ban, the landscape, the architecture and the aspira- tions of the existing building and their community. The design introduces and draws great emphasis on carrying Al Zahiya shopping centre values in a contemporary architectural manner and attempts to introduce an urban carpet of interactive spaces and a new community attraction node.
An interactive building that offers the creative flex- ible layer and openness that the modern surround- ing community is looking to adopt. A canvas of all the attractive attributes the centre has to offer, the building will exhibit a range of creative functions that reflects the spirit of the center. The design aims to excite and inspire the next door community to interact and entertain through this new space.
Layering occurs within the interior of a simple form. The park is pulled into the ground floor of the building, and within this monolithic translu- cent enclosure occurs different layers, levels, green- ery, and functions. The simple rectangular form that makes up the building is interrupted at three points; the park within the interior, the food court area, and the pool on the roof. These interruptions are like cracks that diversify the experience of the space. Each cutout and interruption in the form is a window into part of the context, it can either be the bay, the park, or the sky.
An essential challenge that the site proposed was to plan the building efficiently while achieving the program requirements. On the one hand in order to gain a unique interactive shopping center experi- ence and on the other hand in order to create flex- ible spaces that promote a lifelong etertaining ex- perience. The environment played a significant role in the design of the shopping center where it was integrated through interactive skin, atriums, inside outside and in shaping the spaces weaved within the building envelop and spread to the surrounding.
